Regal has announced that Lord Richard Harrington has been appointed to the Regal Board as its Non-Executive Chair. He will assist with the next phase of the residential-led mixed-use developer’s growth strategy.  

Lord Harrington has extensive experience in the real estate sector, having run a development business for many years across residential, commercial and hotel sectors before entering politics.

Most recently, Lord Harrington led The Harrington Review of Foreign Direct Investment that was published in November 2023. It made wide recommendations to reorganise government with the intention of attracting more foreign investment into the UK.

During that Review, he interviewed over 200 companies, sovereign wealth funds and pension funds from across the globe. Its recommendations were accepted by both the last and current Governments.

Lord Harrington’s political career began after being elected as the Conservative MP for Watford from 2010 to 2019. He served as the Prime Ministers Apprenticeship Advisor as well as Pensions Minister and Business and Industry Minister, before standing down in 2019.

He was made a Life Peer in 2022 and most recently served as Minister of State (Minister for Refugees) jointly in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Home Office between March 2022 and September 2022.

As part of his role, Lord Harrington created and pioneered the Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship scheme.

This news follows global alternative investment manager Cheyne Capital’s joint venture with Regal to finance a purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development on High Road in Wembley. The residences have been designed with student experience and wellbeing at the forefront.

Located a short distance from universities, the development will be comprised of two buildings with a total of 998 bedrooms. The project includes gardens, greened street-side terraces, a gym, a multi-use studio, lounge and dining room. It will also offer an array of study spaces and a community studio space to rent.
