Overview of the trial
Between March and August 2024, Filmbankmedia partnered with Yugo and GSL Index to survey 1,200 students given access to Filmbankconnect. The participants included a range of UK and international students predominantly from China, India, Africa, and Europe. Subtitles and multi-language audio were available to cater to international students.
The trial aimed to assess the positive impact of Filmbankconnect on student satisfaction, mental health, and retention rates.
Key results – “It’s Better than Netflix!” (Yugo Student, May 2024)
- 88% loved the service: students reported a significant improvement in their experience, with customer satisfaction soaring by 32 points.
- 46% likely to renew tenancy: nearly half of the students agree that Filmbankconnect is one reason they would renew their tenancy for another year.
- 77% improved mental health: students noted a 23-point improvement in wellbeing compared to those without Filmbankconnect.
- Higher ratings for accommodation: users of the streaming platform were significantly more likely to rate their accommodation as very good (62% vs. 40% of non-users).
Addressing mental health: more than just a streaming platform
- Students who used Filmbankconnect were more likely to enjoy socialising in their accommodation, form close relationships, and feel a strong sense of community compared to non-users.
- Site Managers were able to promote movie nights to reduce loneliness, whilst maximising the asset value of the cinema and common rooms.
Return on investment and supporting digital transformation
Integrating Filmbankconnect into the Resident App can increase digital engagement, reduce operational costs, and support the investment case for further digital transformation.
Advertising revenue opportunities are available, supporting banner and video pre-roll advertising, creating an opportunity for PBSA to generate an additional revenue stream.
