The Class Foundation has released two vital research reports: the European PBSA Legalities Report 2024, in collaboration with Class partner Loyens & Loeff, and the European PBSA Investment Barometer 2024, in collaboration with Savills.
The European PBSA Legalities Report 2024 offers an in-depth overview of tax, legal and regulatory landscapes affecting purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) across 11 European countries: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom.
The legalities surrounding student housing in Europe are complex and multifaceted. The report provides crucial insights into market-specific regulations, guiding stakeholders to navigate the challenges and leverage opportunities within the region’s PBSA sector.
The European PBSA Investment Barometer 2024 delivers a detailed analysis of investment trends shaping the PBSA market. The report reveals that despite regulatory challenges and rising costs, investor interest remains robust, with plans for a 70% expansion in bed numbers over the next five years.
Significantly, if all PBSA investors follow the expansion ambition as aimed by survey respondents, the European provision rate could increase from the current 11% to 17% by adding over 1.7 million beds over the next five years, The Class Foundation reports find.
“The PBSA sector in Europe stands at a transformative crossroads, where investors wield the power to redefine the very landscape of purpose-built student accommodation. Their strategic decisions, allocation of resources, and visionary outlook will not only drive the sector’s growth but also determine the quality of living experiences for the students of tomorrow.”
Richard Valentine-Selsey, Head of European Living Research & Consultancy, Savills
Both reports underscore the pressing need for regulatory frameworks and investment strategies that can meet the growing demand for student housing in key European university cities.
The Legalities Report provides stakeholders with a clear roadmap to navigate complex legal environments, while the Investment Barometer highlights critical market trends, investor sentiment, and the future growth potential of the PBSA sector.
“The insights from our Legalities Report and Investment Barometer are invaluable for industry players looking to make informed decisions in a rapidly evolving market. By providing clear, actionable data, we aim to support our partners in expanding access to high-quality student housing across Europe.”
