urbanest has announced that its 1,672-bedroom purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme in Canary Wharf is just weeks away from topping out.
Work continues to progress at 2 Trafalgar Way, the company’s largest scheme to date, a project targeting Passivhaus certification, which, once achieved, will make it the largest Passivhaus development in Europe.
The development is a PBSA-led mixed-use scheme, with three towers of 28, 36 and 46 storeys. A four-storey podium will include 41,000 sq ft of commercial office space, as well as ancillary residential, indoor soft play-space for children and retail.

The commercial office space will be capable of supporting a number of university departments and also flexible and affordable working, including space for start-up ventures that will enjoy cross-fertilisation with academia.
“We are just weeks away from topping out at our incredible urbanest Canary Wharf development!
Statement, urbanest
“Thank you to everyone involved in the project to date, we look forward to celebrating the achievement that is topping out and seeing the continued progression on site.”
The intention is to create an environment like the successfully delivered BaseKX in St Pancras with University College London.
In addition to providing high-quality accommodation, the project aims to achieve exemplar sustainability credentials, targeting both BREEAM Outstanding and Passivhaus certification, which once achieved, will make it the largest Passivhaus development in Europe.
