CxG Glasgow has selected Reigart Contracts to carry out demolition on the first phase of a £250m regeneration scheme at Charing Cross in Glasgow, Scotland.

A detailed planning application has now been submitted for a 620-bedroom purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme designed by Michael Laird Architects. It follows outline consent granted by Glasgow City Council at the end of 2024.

The move marks a step forward for the Charing Cross Gateway project. Reigart Contracts is due to complete enabling works on the site, located on the south side of Bath Street, by early 2026. A start on construction is targeted for the second quarter of that year, but a main contractor has not yet been announced for the project.

The student scheme is the first phase of the wider Charing Cross Gateway framework, which aims to transform the western edge of the city centre with a mix of residential, student and commercial space.

The redevelopment is intended to enhance public realm, support population growth and improve access to key civic and transport infrastructure in line with Glasgow City Council’s urban policy.

The development has completed a two-stage public consultation and remains one of the largest regeneration opportunities in Glasgow.
