GRAHAM is delivering Belfast’s first-ever Passivhaus-certified purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) on behalf of Queen’s University Belfast, and it will be the city’s first ultra-low emission multi-occupancy building. The scheme will be known as Weavers’ Hall.

GRAHAM is continuing construction at the project in Northern Ireland, which is progressing at pace with the cores reaching full height. The PBSA development will eventually reach 16 storeys and will include 459 student bedrooms in a mix of cluster apartments and studios. Amenities will include meeting rooms, communal and social spaces, group dining areas, laundry and a post room.

The building will consist of a concrete frame with brick and glazed facades and will incorporate mechanical ventilation heat recovery (MVHR) units and high-efficiency air source heat pumps.

A Passivhaus is a voluntary standard for energy efficiency in a building, which reduces the building’s carbon footprint. Conforming to these standards results in ultra-low energy buildings that require less energy for space heating or cooling, so students at the Weavers’ Hall scheme can enjoy comfortable temperatures all year round and improved internal air quality.

There is a growing demand for sustainable and energy-efficient construction and Passivhaus is one of the most exacting global standards. The Weavers’ Hall PBSA development will be the first ultra-low emission multi-occupancy building in Belfast city centre.
