Vita Group has revealed fresh plans for the transformation of a Nottingham city centre landmark into a purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development on Shakespeare Street.

The former police and fire station will be comprehensively refurbished and modernised to create space for 566 new student bedrooms. 249 studios would fill the existing building, which would have one storey added, and a new 18-storey accommodation block is planned for the courtyard area.

The new structure, called the House of Social, would provide 317 bedrooms with shared living spaces. Ahead of submitting a planning application to Nottingham City Council, Vita is currently running a public consultation on the scheme.

“All buildings are Grade II listed and are currently unoccupied. This application does not include the Guildhall – several different options are being explored to revitalise this building. This will be subject to a separate planning application in the future.”
