Orion Land has submitted planning for the Eagle Point purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development in Birmingham city centre, close to a number of higher education institutions. The company asked the local community for their views on the proposals in April this year, ahead of lodging plans with Birmingham City Council.
Orion Land has now lodged the proposals, which seek to transform a site on Swallow Street into a community for students, offering 263 bedrooms in a mix of 169 cluster rooms, 80 studios, and 14 wheelchair-accessible studios.
“Not only will this scheme radically transform Swallow Street, but this development will also bring a range of benefits to the whole of Birmingham.
“PBSA will help meet the growing need for student accommodation, as well as helping to free up residential properties outside of the city centre, potentially allowing new families to move into family-sized homes that were formerly HMO properties.
“Local businesses will also benefit from the influx of students moving into this prime city centre location, as these students will support the variety of retailers, restaurants, and leisure activities already available.”

Swallow Street is in close proximity to seven higher education institutions, six of which are within a one-mile radius of the site.
