Skybridge Property has been given planning approval for Mercia Business Village – a major purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme in Coventry. The flagship student village, designed by Corstorphine & Wright, will be built on the site of an office scheme in Coventry.

Skybridge Property sought approval to redevelop the site of Mercia Business Village, Torwood Close, which comprises 22 two-storey office buildings. These will be demolished and replaced with four residential blocks providing 1,006 student bedrooms and associated amenities and communal areas.

Examples of student amenity spaces include gym, laundry facilities, residents’ lounge, shared study places, cinema/computer game room, theatre kitchen, games room, party room, outdoor BBQ area, outdoor movie area and an outdoor fitness/activities area.

A planning statement said the proposals will revitalise the existing site and bring vibrancy and activity to the surrounding area through the creation of a new student residential population in keeping with the recent development of adjacent sites.

The Planning Committee considered the Mercia Student Village application on 31 July 2025. Members voted unanimously for approval.
