Soller Group’s plans for a 216-bedroom purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) in Birmingham have been approved at Birmingham City Council’s planning committee on 13 February.

The scheme will deliver 216 new beds with amenities to include co-working, events space, private dining, games, cinema and a gym.

The developer brought forward proposals for a 13-storey facility on land at the corner of Tennant Street and Granville Street, Edgbaston, designed by Glancy Nicholls Architects. The site is a 35-space rectangular car park for furniture store Lee Longlands which fronts Broad Street.

Soller Group’s scheme is within close proximity of Broad Street and the proposal sits in a prime location, only a short walking distance to the city centre and with easy accessibility to numerous transport links including the new metro stops along Broad Street.

The site is situated within a 15-minute walk from Five Ways Train Station and a 20-minute walk to Grand Central Station in the city centre, providing ease of access to wider network connections.

“The application would bring into use a vacant brownfield site for student accommodation for which there is a demonstrated need, in a sustainable location”.
