All-inclusive student accommodation website UniHomes has partnered with Howden Insurance (formerly Endsleigh) to offer free 24/7 wellbeing support to its entire student customer base. The wellbeing support is a new addition to UniHomes’ offering, delivering immediate mental, financial and physical wellbeing support to thousands of students across the UK.
An annual student mental health study by Cibyl, supported by Student Minds, found that out of 12,644 respondents – made up of 7% recent graduates and 92% current students across 145+ universities – 75% worry about their mental health on a monthly basis.
“We know just how challenging life studying at university can be and this is why we’ve partnered with Howden to provide free 24/7 wellbeing support, should our students ever need it.”
Phil Greaves, Co-Founder and CEO, UniHomes
The Office for Students reports the number of university students disclosing mental health issues is increasing year on year, while research by the National Union of Students (NUS) found that 37% of students have considered leaving their course because of poor mental health, with the same proportion having sought mental health support.
“It’s clear that mental health struggles at university are intensifying. Our vision is to make student living stress-free, so that students can spend their time focusing on their studies, and most importantly, enjoying their time at university.
“This is why we looked to diversify how we can help. Although there are some fantastic support services available to students via their universities, NHS, or using services such as Student Minds, Samaritans, and PAPYRUS, we wanted to make accessing wellbeing support as immediate as we can for our students and without cost.
“This partnership enables us to do that, with round-the-clock support services just a phone call away, tailoring the support each student needs.”
Phil Greaves, Co-Founder and CEO, UniHomes
Howden currently provides mental health and wellbeing support to over one million students, and their wellbeing services are now available to every UniHomes student customer.
Through this partnership, UniHomes customers now have access to unlimited 24/7 confidential support services, trained counsellors and more via a 24/7 helpline operated by Health Assured, the largest EAP provider in the UK and Ireland, supporting over 13.5 million people with its wellbeing solutions. In 2024 Health Assured supported over 1,600 student calls each month, with 95% of these being for emotional support.
“We know many young people across the UK need help and support, and we’re pleased to partner with UniHomes to extend our wellbeing services to their entire student community.
“We understand the importance of every student being able to access support for their mental health and this partnership enables us to welcome more students across the UK to our Howden for Students portal, and provide them with the unlimited, 24/7 wellbeing support they need.”
