Urbium Capital and Gregory Property Group’s purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme in York is progressing well. The 133-bedroom PBSA development at Foss Islands Road is now well underway and on track to be completed in June 2026, with GMI Construction working as the main contractor.

Now, the steel frame structure is going up, bathroom pods, staircases and external brickwork are well underway, with the ground floor frame now fully in place.

“All credit to GMI who have made huge progress taking advantage of good weather. It is always great to see the frame going up and marks a conclusion of all the groundworks. Whilst there is of course, a very long way to go, progress to date has been excellent.”

The brownfield site was acquired early last year. Designed with sustainability in mind, the Foss Islands Road scheme will deliver a five-storey building with 131 premium studios and two one-bedroom apartments.

Amenities include co-working study spaces, a fitness centre, multi-functional social areas, and landscaped courtyards that aim to enhance the student living experience.

Equidistant from the University of York and York St John University and conveniently positioned on the edge of the city centre, the Foss Islands Road scheme provides an ideal location for students studying at either university. The new development aims to address York’s well-documented PBSA shortage while contributing to the area’s regeneration.
