Nido Randwyck has opened its doors in Maastricht, Netherlands, as the award-winning student accommodation platform continues its expansion across Europe.

This PBSA project offers 506 studios of which 430 units fall under the social housing allowance limit scheme for people of age 23.

It has been developed by Urban Developers in close collaboration with Mathieu Bruls architect, Kompas 360, Zuyd Vastgoed and MC2 Management. With a strong focus on sustainability and interior design, Nido Randwyck meets the local demand for affordable housing.

Nido provided insight into the design process, bringing in award-winning company ‘A Designer at Heart.’ The interior design has been instrumental in capturing Nido’s wellbeing design ethos.

Students can live in highly specified and amenitised studios, with access to a series of thoughtfully designed study and social spaces. These include a gym, outdoor garden, lounges, private dining facilities and co-working areas.

Located in the Randwyck district, the accommodation is a short walk or cycle from the Maastricht University faculties. Maastricht University is one of the top European educational facilities, ranking 127th best university in the world.

Sustainability features

In addition to its location and facilities, Nido Randwyck also has various sustainability features. These include a largely wooden facade cladding, surrounding garden areas with water retention for rainwater from the roof, solar panels to reduce energy consumption, a full electric low-temperature climate system, LED lighting and motion sensors. These combined energy measures comply with the regulations for energy neutrality.

Nido has said that many bookings are already being taken midway into the season.

“We could not be happier to see Nido Randwyck open and the quality of the end product: this is a pioneering scheme that we can truly be proud to operate. With many students booking midway into the season, it is clear that there is a huge need for accommodation in the city, which our scheme helps to address, and we are excited and very positive about our opening.”

Nido Living has also expanded further in the Spanish capital, Madrid.

Príncipe Pío will be located in the heart of the capital and provides 636 beds aimed specifically at university students and young professionals. It is now open for bookings for the new academic year when the scheme will officially open its doors.
